How to Measure a Hot Tub Cover?

Before you buy a new cover for your hot tub, you need to know how to measure it. You need to be sure that it fits properly, so it is important to always double-check your measurements. Keep reading below to learn the 4 steps of measuring a hot tub as well as extra tips for different cover shapes.

Step 1 - Measure the Hot Tub

The first thing you should do is measure your hot. You can then measure your old hot tub cover if it still fits well. Covers can change over time, so your first measurement should always be the tub itself. If the tub and cover measure differently, use the tub measurements to buy a new cover.

Measure the outside dimension of the acrylic. This is known as a lip to lip measurement. You can add 1” on the length and 1” on the width.

Step 2 - Measure the Cover

If you’re measuring a hot tub or cover with rounded corners, you should use a carpenter’s square. Place the square on the corner. Measure the distance from the inside corner of the carpenter’s square to where it touches the tub or cover. This is the radius of the rounded corner.

Step 3 - Measure the Cover Skirt

The cover skirt hangs from the bottom of the hot tub cover. It protects the side of the acrylic that is not directly under the cover. You’ll need to measure from the top of the acrylic to the bottom of the lip of the tub then add 1/2”. If you’re measuring from an old cover, measure from the bottom to the edge of the skirt. If you use a wood rail with your hot tub, you’ll need to measure from the wood to the top of the acrylic.

Step 4 - Measure the Strap Length

You should measure from the bottom of the skirt to the end of the buckle to get this measurement. If you need specific strap locations, measure from the centre of where they are to be placed.

Measuring A Square Hot Tub Cover

Measure the outside dimension of the shell and add 1” to each measurement. Measure the skirt length and add 1/2”.

Measuring A Rectangle Hot Tub Cover

Measure the outside dimensions of the tub. Add 1” to each measurement. Measure the hot tub skirt as above.

Measuring A Square Hot Tub Cover with Rounded Corners

Measure as a square cover but measure the corner radius using a carpenter’s square. Measure the cover skirt.

Measuring A Round Hot Tub Cover

Measure the diameter by measuring straight across at the widest point of the tub. Add 1” to this measurement. Verify by measuring the seam of the old cover. Measure the cover skirt.

Measuring A Cut Corner Hot Tub Cover

Measure as a square tub. Measure the width of the cut corners. Measure each individually if they vary in size. Measure the cover skirt.

Measuring an Octagon Hot Tub Cover

Measure the whole width of the tub, and measure one of the sides. Measure the skirt length.

Measuring A Hexagon Hot Tub Cover

Measure the outside width of the whole tub. Measure on of the angled sides of the tub. Measure the cover skirt.
