How Much Does a Swim Spa Cost in Ontario?
Live in Ontario and want a swim spa? You need to know the cost.
Let me guess. You’ve been to a few websites and found you have to give away your phone number and email just to find out the price (try it, that’s what often happens).
Well, at Hydropool we believe in being transparent about pricing. You can see the price for every swim spa we sell here: Hydropool Swim Spas.
But that’s not quite the whole story is it? That is only the price of the swim spa itself (and our network of dealers may sell for less – that’s an MSRP or manufacturer’s suggested price).
A standard, above-ground install with a concrete pad and electrical hook up, adds about $4,000-5,000 to the cost of the swim spa although this will vary on where in Ontario you are.
But in-ground or above ground is just one of the factors involved. In Ontario, as in elsewhere in the world, the total price of a swim spa varies depending on several factors, including the brand, model, size, features and landscaping. In Ontario, most people spend between $30,000 and $70,000 on a swim spa, counting absolutely everything.
That’s a big range, but there are a lot of factors involved. In this article, we’ll break those down so you can get to a number closer to your situation.
Here’s what we’ll cover:
- Factors influencing the cost of swim spas in Ontario
- A breakdown of pricing for different swim spa models
- The costs beyond the swim spa itself
- How to choose the right swim spa for your budget and lifestyle

What Factors Influence the Cost of a Swim Spa in Ontario?
The cost of a swim spa can vary based on several factors, and it's important to understand these before making a purchase. Let’s take a look at the main elements that will influence the price of a swim spa in Ontario.
1. Size of the Swim Spa
The size of the swim spa is a key factor in determining its price. For example, Hydropool offers various models ranging from 12 feet to 19 feet in length, with larger models generally costing more. The size you choose depends on how much space you have available and how many people will use the swim spa at once.
- 12–13 feet (3.6–4 meters) swim spas are ideal for individuals or couples who want to enjoy low-impact exercise and relaxation. These smaller models are typically more affordable, with prices starting around $20,000 to $30,000 CAD. Hydropool’s least expensive model is the Hydropool AquaPlay.
- 14–16 feet (4.2–4.8 meters) models are larger and offer more space for swimming, exercise, and hydrotherapy, usually costing between $35,000 and $50,000 CAD. For Hydropool, this is most both our Aquatic and Executive collections.
- 17–19 feet (5.2–5.8 meters) models are the most spacious, offering plenty of room for multiple users and intense swimming sessions. These larger models can cost anywhere from $50,000 to $70,000 CAD. That’s Hydropool’s Executive or Aquatic again with a choice of having one big swim spa or a swim spa with a side hot tub.
2. Features and Options
The features and options available on a swim spa can significantly impact its price. Swim spas come with a variety of features, including advanced swim jets, energy-efficient pumps, water purification systems, and customizable lighting.
- Self-Cleaning Technology: Hydropool has self-cleaning technology that can reduce maintenance time and costs, but it does add to the price.
- Advanced Jets or Swim Systems: You can have a jet-created swim (what Hydropool uses) or one with a propeller. Either system can generate good swims.
- Hydrotherapy Jets: Advanced jets and massage options enhance the therapeutic benefits, contributing to the overall cost. Jacuzzi offers infrared, for example on its swim spa.
- Smart Features: Remote control, app connectivity, and other smart features add to the convenience and comfort but also increase the price.
The cost of these features depends on the model and your specific needs. The more advanced features you opt for, the higher the price of the swim spa.
3. Installation Costs
The installation process can add to the total cost of purchasing a swim spa. There are several elements to consider, including:
- Site Preparation: If you're installing a swim spa inground, excavation and site preparation costs can vary. This could add several thousand dollars to the overall price, depending on the complexity of the site. Inground is the most expensive way to install a swim spa. Whether it’s in-ground or on top, you need a concrete pad underneath the swim spa, which is roughly $3,000.
- Electrical Setup: Swim spas require 240V electrical service. Depending on the distance from the power source and the complexity of the electrical setup, installation costs can be anywhere from $1,500 to $3,000 depending.
- Access and Delivery: If your site is difficult to access, or if you need special equipment to deliver and install the swim spa, this can also increase the cost. Hydropool delivers all swim spas by crane and it’s often built into the sale price. They are around $2,500 to rent.
Everyone’s situation is slightly different. A Hydropool dealer can get a clear estimate of the installation costs based on your specific site.
Elements to Consider for Ontario Shoppers
Whether you buy a Hydropool or another brand, one thing for sure is to make sure you buy a swim spa that can stand up to our winters. We have been selling Hydropool swim spas since the 1990s and have been around as a hot tub company for more than 45 years. So we know our products can last a Canadian winter.
But insulation and energy efficiency vary from company to company and it’s something to keep in mind.
Another factor is where your hot tubs are built and primarily sold. Our hot tubs and swim spas are made in Mississauga (come by anytime, it’s 335 Superior Blvd). So again, we know they can handle weather in Ontario because it’s where we sell most of them.
But if a swim spa company is based in Las Vegas and making swim spas primarily for California, well, we’d have concerns whether that model was really designed to last in Canada or not.
How to Choose the Right Swim Spa for Your Budget
Choosing the right swim spa for your Ontario home depends on your budget, space, and intended use. Here are a few tips to help you make an informed decision:
1. Assess Your Space
Before you make a decision, assess the space where you want to install your swim spa. Swim spas come in a variety of sizes, and it's essential to choose one that fits your available space. When measuring, remember that you need to leave two to three feet around the entire swim spa when measuring so you can access each side down the road.
2. Determine Your Usage Needs
Think about how you plan to use the swim spa. Will it be for exercise and swimming? If so, opt for a model with a powerful swim system. If you’re more interested in relaxation, a smaller model with hydrotherapy jets may be more suitable.
Once you know your space and what you want to use it for, you’re ready to start looking at models.
