Whether you have a family of four or enjoy entertaining, a four-person hot tub is a great way to create a space for conversation, relaxation, and more. It’s a great size for many people.

Before you buy, you need to know what will fit. We understand that because we get asked about size a lot at our Hydropool retail outlets.

A four-person hot tub is generally about 6 feet to 7.5 wide to 6 feet-7.5 feet in length. They can be squares or rectangles, as a result (and some are circular, but that’s increasingly rare). But that’s their rough size. The actual size will vary depending on the manufacturer and the configuration of the seats.

For example, a four-person hot tub at Hydropool is 80”x80”. That’s 6.5 feet by 6.5 feet.  (here is our mid-level Serenity model, here is our higher-end Signature model).

If  you’re looking for smaller or bigger than that, here’s a guide:

  • A 2-4 person hot tub ranges from 5’L-7’W x 5L’-7’W
  • A 4-6 person hot tub is 6.5’Lx 6.5’W to 7.5’L x 7.5’W
  • A 7+ person hot tub is about 7’L x 7’W up to 9’L x 9’W

We didn’t want you to have to wait for the answer, so we gave it to you right away. But we do get follow-up questions, many of which are below.

  • how much space do you need to leave around a four-person hot tub?
  • how much does a four-person hot tub weigh?
  • how much support does a four-person hot tub need?
  • how much does a four-person hot tub cost?
  • who should buy a four-person hot tub?
  • is a four-person hot tub right for me?

In this article, we will go through all these questions, so that by the end, we hope you have a good sense of four-person hot tub dimensions.

How Much Space Do You Need to Leave Around a Four-Person Hot Tub?

We suggest you need two to three feet around each side. This is to allow for room for elements such as any cover or furniture. It also has a more practical purpose, in the event you ever need to service the hot tub. You will want each side to be accessible by anyone doing the work.

How Much Does a Four-Person Hot Tub Weigh?

Around 3,000-4,000 lbs. This will depend on the size of the hot tub overall.

How Much Support Does a Four-Person Hot Tub Need?

All hot tubs need to have packed gravel, a deck, a cement pad or packed gravel with cement blocks on top of them to provide sufficient support. You can read more about this here.

Who Should Buy a Four-Person Hot Tub?

A four-person hot tub is great for:

  • small families
  • It’s also terrific for couples who want a bit more space in the hot tub
  • anyone who want both seats and a lounger (like this configuration)

Is a Four-Person Hot Tub the Right Size for Me?

So yes it could be, especially if you just qualified for the categories above.

If space is your primary concern, you can often fit a hot tub with more seating into the same space. Hydropool’s most popular hot tub is actually a five-person, the Signature 579G. But we know most people are buying it aren’t thinking about it for a family of five.

They are thinking about two people using it and having enough room for expansion when they need more room. It might hold five, but we know most are used by two and four quite often.

It is 80”x80” (or 6.5 feet by 6.5 feet), the same size as our four-seater. It is just arranged differently to allow more seats.

So a four-seater is a great buy and is a standard hot tub size. But you can also find other options in the same space.

The number of people a hot tub is made for is not always a direct indication of its size. For example, a 5-person hot tub may be more appropriate for four people depending on who your guests are and how much room they prefer. Again, this is why it's important to determine how much space you have and then look for hot tubs that will fit that space.

After you've determined several hot tubs that will fit your needs, your budget, and your space, we’d encourage you to try before you buy. This is the best indication of whether a particular hot tub is right for you. Pay attention to how spacious it is while you are seated, whether the seats are the right size, and how much space is in the footwell.

How Big is a Four-Seater Hot Tub?

A four-seat hot tub is about 80 inches or 6.5 feet on each side. You will get variations from this, both shorter and longer – there is no typical hot tub. The shapes may change: you will get squares and rectangles and the odd circle if you want. But that’s an approximation.

If you’re looking for a four-seat hot tub, the exact size will change based on the model you’re considering. At Hydropool, we’d encourage you to choose your model, factoring in your size, then developing an installation plan with your local retailer (once you pick the hot tub, you know what size everything else has to be!). You don’t have to do it this way, but we find it’s the easiest way for most people to buy a quality hot tub.

We hope we have answered all your questions about four-person hot tub sizing. If we haven’t, don’t hesitate to reach out to us by contacting your local retailer.
