Hydropool Hot Tubs vs Canadian Spa Company: Which is Best?

Hydropool Hot Tubs and Swim Spas

Published Apr 29, 2024

You want to buy a Canadian hot tub. So Hydropool? Headquartered in Mississauga. And Canadian Spa Company, headquartered in Oakville.

But these two top hot tub brands are very different, despite being located only a few kilometers away from each other. They are built differently and have considerably varied lineups. That’s what we will go into in this article.

For example, all of Hydropool’s hot tubs are made at our headquarters in Mississauga and then shipped around the world, but Canadian Spa Company says that it manufactures “our hot tubs and other products in North America, Asia and Europe and distribute around the world.” So right there you have two different ways of doing business.

We know that it might seem odd for one hot tub manufacturer to write about another. But we know some people will want to buy Canadian Spa products and some will want to buy ours: We want to make it easier for people to decide which is best for them. We have been in business for more than 40 years: We are used to competition!

In this article, we will run down the similarities and differences between the two brands. Hopefully, by the end, you’ll know which is best for you!

Hydropool vs Canadian Spa: Comparing Models

Most hot tub and swim spa companies use collections as a way to group their products.

  • Hydropool does this with two collections, Serenity and Signature, its top-of-the-line self-cleaning model.
  • Canadian Spa groups its collections of spas by intended use, being more literal. On the company website, they are labelled, “Portable Spas,” “Plug & Play” and “240V Luxury Spas.” Click on any and you get hot tubs within the category each named after a Canadian city.

The comparison between the two high quality hot tub brands isn’t perfect as a result. For one, Canadian Spa has a more varied lineup than Hydropool, offering two-seaters, round hot tubs and other unusual combinations, if that’s what you’re looking. Hydropool’s lineup is filled with traditional squares and rectangles, running from three-seats on up to a seven-seat hot tub.

Most Canadian Spa models compare best with Hydropool’s Serenity collection of hot tubs though, although their lineup does have comparable elements to the higher-end Signature line as well.

Hydropool vs Canadian Spa: Which Looks Best?

Both companies take on a classic approach to hot tub design. That means synthetic wood cabinets for each, for example. Hydropool offers a selection of five acrylic colors on most of its hot tubs and two cabinet colors. From what we could see on the Canadian Spa website, it has what looks like a white/grey neutral acrylic for the tub area and a medium-brown cabinet (we put one in our shopping cart and got no option to change the acrylic or cabinet color).

If looks are determining your decision, we’d advise you to make sure you see each in person so you can evaluate fit and finish.

Hydropool vs Canadian Spa: Which is Easier to Maintain?

Hydropool’s Signature line has a unique self-cleaning system which mirrors the way public pools are cleaned. Its cleaning filtration system features a top skimmer and bottom vacuum, plus suction-side filtration, which all combine to achieve the same standards as a public pool (and ensures your water is filtered every 10 minutes). You can also add an available AOP system (which stands for Advanced Oxidization Process – it combines UV light and an ozonator to help sanitize the water in your hot tub, in a similar way to how drinking water is treated).

Hydropool’s Serenity line uses what is close to an industry-standard system. That means a top skimmer and the filter is placed in front of the water pump, rather than behind it. An AOP system is optional on Serenity.

Canadian Spa uses a similar system to Serentiy, with a key helpful addition in its Glacier filter, which acts as an anti-microbial micro-filter for the hot tub. The company also has standard ozone injection, which is part of a full AOP system as another noteworthy element.

Hydropool vs Canadian Spa: Which has Better Massage?

You might notice a few more jets on the Canadian Spa, and you’re likely right. More jets can be great to create a lot of action in the water which can create a fun hot tubbing experience. Hydropool has fewer jets because your hot tub is less expensive to run that way, and they are strategically placed, so that they are pointing to the areas where you’d most like to get a massage. We find that location matters more than the number of jets in any hot tub.

Hydropool also has what’s called Zone Therapy massage, which specifically targets specific areas all over your body, which in turn ensures you get a full body massage.

Hydropool vs Canadian Spa: Which is More Efficient?

Canadian Spa has what it calls blackout insulation, which is a type of full foam. Full foam is great – we used to use it at Hydropool! But we switched to a foam blanket, which we find allows easier access if something ever does go wrong, while also trapping the waste heat of the hot tub motor and using it to heat your tub. Canadian Spa hot tubs are built with reflective material in their full foam, like we do, to achieve the same effect. Out of all the types of tubs in the world, both are good systems.

Hydropool vs Canadian Spa: Which is Better on Price?

Canadian Spa across the board feature hot tubs that are a little cheaper than Hydropool's Serenity line. As a top-of-the-line hot tub, Signature is in another category and costs a little more for each version.

In a rare move, both companies have their hot tub prices online. So if you’re comparing model to model, you will be able to see for yourself what the approximate price of either hot tub is while researching.

Hydropool vs Canadian Spa: Which is the right hot tub for me?

Comparing two Canadian brands is a common thought. If the hot tubs can produce hot tubs to handle Canada’s winters, they will be tough enough for anything you throw at them, right? So we’re not surprised you’d end up comparing these two brands.

But while they are both linked to Canada, the two brands have developed very differently.

Hydropool has developed self-cleaning and Zone Therapy massage, using its engineering to make sure you get the most of your hot tub. All its hot tubs are made in Mississauga, Ontario. Hydropool is a Canadian company and proud of it!

Canadian Spa has taken a value-based approach, with lower prices and a lot of included features, such as waterfalls and many jets, as well as a wide range of different hot tub sizes. Its hot tubs are made around the world.

We hope this guide has provided you with a solid understanding of the two brands, so you can search accordingly for the right hot tub for you. And if we’ve missed anything in this guide, don’t hesitate to get in touch with us, by finding a local retailer near you here.
