Hydropool Hot Tubs and Swim Spas

Published May 12, 2025

Hydropool’s Zone Therapy is a system unique to Hydropool Hot Tubs and Swim Spas. We actually aren’t usually asked about it until people learn a bit about us and our products, but once that happens we do get a lot of questions from anyone shopping who is interested in massage or hydrotherapy.

And that’s why we wanted to write this article. Every hot tub and swim spa company must take an approach to hydrotherapy and massage. That approach can be “here’s a bunch of jets!” all the way up to “we have the latest in some expensive technology that neither of us are sure actually works or not.”

With that in mind, we wanted to explain our system, which is in the middle of both of those approaches. It’s designed so you can get the massage you want, but without anything over the top fancy that you ultimately don’t need to pay for.

At the most simple level, Hydropool’s Zone Therapy is a hydrotherapy system that creates four distinct zones in order to target specific muscle groups and body areas for personalized massage and relaxation.

So this article will cover:

  • What is hydrotherapy?

  • What is Hydropool’s Zone Therapy?

  • What parts of the body does Zone Therapy target?

  • How does Hydropool’s Zone Therapy work?

  • How does Hydropool’s Zone Therapy compare to other models?

Hopefully by the end you’ll have a strong sense of what Zone Therapy is all about at Hydropool.

What is hydrotherapy?

Hydrotherapy is any method of using water to feel better. Hot shower after a hard climbing session at the gym? That’s hydrotherapy. An ice bath to get the heart pumping? That’s hydrotherapy. Splashing cold water on a burn? Also hydrotherapy.

Water massage is yet another version and perhaps one you’re familiar with. It’s using jets to massage your body, benefitting circulation and easing muscle tension. This form of hydrotherapy was originally invented by the Jacuzzi brothers, who went on to found the famous hot tub company that still exists today.

What is Hydropool’s Zone Therapy?

This is how water therapy was born: a jet was placed in a bathtub, allowing the water to circulate and allowing for underwater massage. We have advanced significantly since then.

Today, Zone Therapy is a system in every Hydropool hot tub and swim spa that ensures every part of your body receives a massage. But how does it do that? There’s a lot more going on than turning on a few jets.

Watch the video below to learn how Hydropool's self-cleaning system works. Bonus points if you recognize the sidekick as the author of this article:

What are the components of Zone Therapy?

There are four major elements that determine the effectiveness of Zone Therapy:

  1. The Seats - Ergonomic support cradles your bone structure so the muscular system doesn’t have to. It can focus on receiving the benefits of hydrotherapy.

  1. Type of Jets – We have both deep tissue and gentle massage jets so your muscles receive the help they need everywhere.

  1. Personalized Massage – The jet placement is a key factor, as is your ability to change the water and air flow of the jets. Jets can also be easily swapped out for a customized approach.

  1. Duration and Sequence of Zones – The time and sequence of Zone Therapy can be set. Advanced models come with flashing lights and automatic jets, telling you when to switch seats for an optimum massage.

What parts of the body does Zone Therapy target?

ZONE 1:CORE ZONE
Activation of paravertebral muscles

Vertebral (spine) fatigue can contribute to headaches. Zone Therapy is designed to release tension in your dorsal muscles which can help relax around your vertebrae.

ZONE 2:OVERALL BODY ZONE
Activation of leg and lumbar muscles

This zone helps to promote improved circulation in lower parts of the body which allows for increased blood flow and lightens your legs.

ZONE 3:UPPER BODY ZONE
Activation of upper back, neck & shoulder muscles

This zone eliminates tension in trapezoid muscles and the neck, specifically releasing tensions in the solar plex area.

ZONE 4:REFLEXOLOGY ZONE
Activation of foot arch muscles

With our feet playing such a critical role in our overall physical health, taking the brunt of most sports play and day-to-day activity, this zone is designed to deeply massage the small venous areas in your foot arch.

How does Zone Therapy work?

At the most simple level, you turn on a program and then move seat to seat as the jets automatically come on. The program ensures that each part of your body gets the massage it deserves. Advance systems include lights that blink and tell you what seat to move to.

If you have specific issues, Hydropool hot tubs and swim spas offer customized massage programs for better sleep, back pain, headaches and muscle recovery (as well as many more wellness options). These programs are available at the touch of a button.

Below is an image that shows where the zones exist in a Hydropool hot tub.

Does the number of jets matter when it comes to hydrotherapy?

Yes, but the total amount doesn’t matter as much as some might tell you. What matters most is their placement. If you have 100 jets that are placed haphazardly, you’re not better off than in a hot tub with 30 jets placed logically. And if you have 30 jets placed logically, you don't need 100. More jets cost you more money on an ongoing basis, because you’re paying to power all those jets. What you need is sufficient jets for the massage at a sufficient power to actually help you

How does Zone Therapy compare to other brands?

Other brands will have their own versions of hydrotherapy.

  • Bullfrog allows you to swap out panels from their hot tubs (while we suggest you simply move seats).

  • Jacuzzi offer infrared technology, in a unique system on the market

  • Others, like Hot Springs, have specific jets, such as the Moto-Massage system or Sundance Spas, which has unique jets with no moving parts.

  • Still others will simply hype their high number of jets or power of their pumps. Those are the brands we’d encourage you to stay away from.

Why have we adopted Zone Therapy at Hydropool

  • Because it doesn’t use any proprietary parts which build up costs.

  • We know it works, because we worked with professionals to ensure your full body is covered in the four zones.

  • Because the effort balances jets, pumps and placement. There are no tricks and gimmicks, just a well-thought out hydrotherapy massage in every hot tub and swim spa

  • Essentially, it’s the most-simple and least expensive solution to getting you the best massage possible. The idea is everything you need to have a good massage, but none of the flash that some other brands make you pay for.

Hydropool’s Zone Therapy: Our Approach to Hydrotherapy

Every hot tub and swim spa company has their own version of hydrotherapy, and while they are all designed to help you get a water massage, each works differently. And with that in mind we wanted to explain our system. We hope we have given you a good understanding of our system, which chiefly involves properly placed jets to ensure that you’re capable of getting a full-body massage in each and every Hydropool hot tub and swim spa.

Our jet placement is key, because the jet placement drives the four zones, which range from your back to your neck to your feet to your core. But Zone Therapy also includes seats, jets, types of massage and sequences that are unique to Hydropool.

We have videos here, but Zone Therapy is best understood and seen in person. We’d encourage you to watch the videos but then if you have any questions, to consult your local dealer who can walk you through Zone Therapy at the store, so you can see it – and even try it – yourself.
